Career Profile: The Police foundations program at LAPE College is designed to help individuals looking for a career in policing. Our courses are designed to cover all aspects associated with law enforcement, security and policing in Ontario and throughout Canada. Our curriculum includes areas of interest such as, but not limited to, the Criminal Justice System, Police Powers, Community Policing, Private Investigations, Diversity awareness, Investigations, Evidence and Lifestyle Management. The curriculum is designed to give
students the knowledge and skills required of a law enforcement officer.

The graduate will know the importance of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Criminal Code of Canada legislation regarding criminal and civil law, Understand the laws that police officers and those working with the general public experience, Understand federal and provincial legislation involving
crime and deviant behavior, understand the connection between social surroundings and crime, understand the importance of Criminology and Psychology in the field of law enforcement, understand important legislation regarding police powers, with specific reference to the Ontario
Police Services Act, understand law enforcement powers of authority and public accountability, understand the importance of working cohesively with peers and the general public, understand the importance of fitness and a healthy lifestyle,
understandof the concept of community policing,
understand the important role diversity and cultural differences play in our vast community, understand how to plan, research and conduct effective interviews and investigations, understand the various trends emerging regarding deviance and crime.

  • If you have completed courses related to this program from other institution you can register for this program and L.A.P.E.C. may allow some credits toward some courses taken from L.A.P.E.C. or other designated similar program providers, helping you not only save on tuition fees but also time.



Foreign Nationals


  • For international visitors or temporary residents in Canada, this program requires a study visa or study permit because it is over a six-month study period and, as per IRCC regulations/policy, does require a study permit or visa. If interested, we can assist you with questions from A-Z.


  • If you are currently in Canada either visiting or on a temporary resident permit status; or under a bridging open work permit program waiting for a final decision on your PR application, or you have already submitted your PR application and are waiting for a final decision; you may take this course to learn the advanced-level skills. Once you have PR status, start your career matching this program without wasting time, ready to play your part in the Canadian economy.
